Exploring what a rail trail has to offer is an enjoyable experience for cyclists and walkers alike. With Victoria boasting the largest network of established rail trails in Australia, it wasn’t difficult for the Friends of the Bendigo–Kilmore Rail Trail group to choose a destination for a recent social outing.
Member Keith Skidmore took the lead in planning a two-day ride along the Ballarat–Skipton Rail Trail. Day 1 saw riders travel from Wendouree Station to Linton and return—a 68 km journey—with a well-earned lunch break in Linton.

Blessed with perfect weather, the group looked forward to Day 2, riding from Linton to Skipton and back, covering 42 km and once again pausing in Linton to relax and recharge.

Along the way, participants enjoyed the ever-changing scenery, discovered a couple of charming old-style coffee cafes, and took in one of the trail’s standout features—the impressive Nimmons Bridge, a heritage-listed timber railway structure.

With great weather and even better company, the ride proved to be a memorable experience for all involved.
