The last Wednesday of July attracted eleven members of FBKRT to ride on the Waranga Rail Trail. This wonderful trail opened a little over a year ago, covering the 19km stretch from Rushworth to Murchison. This ride saw the members meet in Rushworth, then cycle to Murchison, a stop at the bakery and the museum, then the return ride to Rushworth.

Two new members were welcomed as this was their first ride with the Friends. Except for a headwind on the return journey, the conditions were ideal for bike riding. With a mostly flat gravel surface the riders could enjoy a chat en route and stop at the posts providing historical information. The huge Waranga Basin gave the group lovely views across the countryside which after the rain is green and lush.

After refreshments at the Murchison Bakery, we visited the Murchison Museum. This museum, especially opened for FBKRT, was full of local history. The highlight was the meteorite fragments reported to be 4.6 billion years old. [Museum web site]

The only misfortune were the punctures on two of the bikes. One managed to limp back, whilst the other required a pick up 10km short of Rushworth on the return journey.
