Ever wondered what it would feel like to cycle or walk across Lake Eppalock? Sounds impossible, doesn’t it?
Well, you can experience something remarkably close to it right now on the O’Keefe Rail Trail!
Between Knowsley and Heathcote, the trail follows the original railway alignment across Lake Eppalock via a causeway. With the lake currently just under 100% capacity, water is lapping at the edges of the trail’s causeway on both sides, creating the extraordinary sensation of cycling or walking right across the water.

The lake surrounds you as you make your way along this scenic section of the trail.
But don’t leave it too long! Water levels are likely to fall over the summer months, so this may be a special opportunity to experience the trail at its best. Plus, the trail’s longest bridge, located on this causeway, crosses the flooded Mt Ida Creek.

Why not make a day of it, or maybe a weekend? Enjoy a coffee or lunch in Axedale, or explore the wineries of the Heathcote region after your ride or walk.
The O’Keefe Rail Trail has plenty to offer, but cycling or walking ‘across the water’ at Lake Eppalock is an experience you won’t easily forget!
Plan your ride or walk and experience it for yourself with friends.
