The Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail “last Wednesday of the month ride” in August saw a group ride the Victorian Goldfields Railway trail from Castlemaine to Maldon.

When: Wednesday, August 28th 2024
Where: Castlemaine – Maldon

Seven members met at the Castlemaine Railway Station carpark to ride on the Victorian Goldfields Railway trail to Maldon. This undulating 18km railside trail passes through the bushland and farmlands as well as beside several old bridges.

The bushland is full of colour and the farmlands lush green after all the rain.

The group stopped at the old station of Muckleford to check it out and take stock there.

Then back on the saddles, for the ride to in to Maldon, managing to stay at the same speed as the steam train. The head-on wind and uphill sections made riding challenging at times. It was suggested that the ride should have been Maldon to Castlemaine!! Maybe next time.

Lunch at the Maldon Hotel was a busy spot, but the steam train trip back to Castlemaine was very relaxing.

A great day, enjoyed by all who participated.
