Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail (FBKRT) is proud to announce that we have formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the City of Greater Bendigo — strengthening our shared commitment to developing, maintaining, and celebrating the region’s trail network.

This is a significant milestone for our organisation: Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail is the first community group to have a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Greater Bendigo. The agreement was signed with Matt Kerlin, Coordinator Active Communities, and Adrian Cummins, President Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail, reflecting Council’s strong support for volunteer‑led trail stewardship.

This partnership recognises the vital role volunteers play in caring for the O’Keefe Rail Trail and supporting future trail development across our region. The MOU provides a clear framework for how FBKRT and Council will work together on:

  • Trail enhancement and maintenance
  • Environmental stewardship and habitat protection
  • Heritage interpretation and storytelling
  • Community engagement and volunteer support
  • Long‑term planning for regional trail connectivity

For our members and supporters, this agreement means even stronger collaboration, clearer communication, and more opportunities to contribute to projects that make our trails safer, more accessible, and more enjoyable for everyone.

We thank the City of Greater Bendigo for their ongoing support and look forward to continuing this positive partnership as we work towards a world‑class trail network for central Victoria.
