An extract, from the 13th June 2015 Bendigo Cycling Network Weekly Update e-newsletter, comes from Peter Carr’s Audax Report for the Paris Brest Paris 1200 preparations :
“Training for the PBP 1200 is going well and as usual I find variety is the key. On Monday, I decided to take the MTB bike for a spin on the O’Keefe Trail to Heathcote and back. What a fantastic track. The new section from Axedale to Heathcote was a real surprise with a robust surface, series of well-engineered bridges, and attractive rest areas and seating. Congratulations to those who had the vision and momentum to develop this wonderful cycling resource- it is a winner!! It is already attracting cyclists of all ages, walkers, cycle tourers. I even caught up with a group of Bendigo cycling gentry who were heading to the Heathcote Winery on a mission, safe in the knowledge that they had arranged return transport for bikes and themselves later in the day. The Victorian winter weather can be a challenge to get off the couch and experience the outdoors and local attractions. Whether a regular or new to off-road rail trails, the new O’Keefe Rail Trail should be on your list of “must do’s”….with many exploring this trail and its connection with Axedale, Heathcote and Bendigo sooner rather than later!
