Seven members of the Friends of the Bendigo–Kilmore Rail Trail group recently enjoyed a few days of cycling adventures, beginning with the picturesque Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail and continuing on to the extensive Canberra bike path network.

The 21-kilometre Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail offered a scenic and well-maintained route through rolling countryside, with a well-deserved stop for coffee and cake at the popular Gone Barney Café in Rosewood.

Despite the chilly Canberra conditions, spirits remained high as the group rode around Lake Burley Griffin, stopping at several points of interest along the way — including the moving Siev X Vessel Memorial.

On the second day, long-time group member Laurie Edward, now based in Canberra, guided the group around Lake Tuggeranong, where riders enjoyed both the ride and the café stops for coffee and lunch.

The final day’s ride took the group into the Mulligans Flat and Goorooyarroo Nature Reserves, a peaceful and scenic area rich in native flora and fauna — a perfect way to conclude the trip.

What a wonderful way to experience the beauty and variety of the Canberra region!
