A new mural now graces the O’Keefe Rail Trail underpass in Axedale.

Two local talented indigenous artists transformed the plain (and often graffitied) concrete walls, ceiling, and entrance of the underpass into a wonderful colourful celebration of connection. The mural was celebrated in a community ceremony as part of the Axedale on Show event on November 17th, 2024.

Taungurung artist, Aimee McCartney, together with Dja Dja Wurrung artist, Troy Firebrace brought this wonderful mural to life. The Campaspe River forms the country border of the traditional custodians of the Dja Dja Wurrung and Taungurung people, and was a natural place to bring the combined art together.
