Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail

Linking central Victoria via the old railway line

Gravel Cycling, Forest, and a Bakery

Excellent weather conditions for a Friends ride, from Heathcote to Rushworth, was just one part of a memorable day’s experience.

Beginning at the Heathcote Visitor Information Centre, the group’s planned ride traced the proposed route for a Heathcote Rushworth Trail.

The initial section followed the McIvor Creek Trail, and then after passing by the Heathcote Golf Course, the group headed for Plantation Road as the link onto forest tracks within the Heathcote-Graytown National Park.

Grass Trees, viewed along the ride.

Cycling along well maintained forest tracks, the riders also noted some new signs installed by DEECA, which assisted with the ride’s wayfinding.

Viewing a number of points of interest along the way, such as native Grass Trees, the Whroo Nature Conservation Area, and the new Fontainbleu Dam Day Visitor Area facilities, the group enjoyed lunch within the forested area.

The destination goal was achieved once the Rushworth Bakery was within sight. Coffee and the taste of baked delights, combined with reflections of the amazing 57kms ride with friends along safe forest tracks… oh, what an experience to remember!
