Bendigo budgets for trail upgrades

The City of Greater Bendigo has released its draft budget for 2010/2011 and it includes nearly $1 million for work on the rail trail. Of the proposed $983,000 to be spent on the rail trail, $633,00 is listed as “externally funded”. Although we’ve heard nothing about the Regional Development Victoria grant application, we suspect this might be the first tranche of funding. Rumour has it that if the budget is approved by council, six new bridges might be in place between Bendigo and Heathcote within the next six months. We’re seeking confirmation.

Spring tree planting

Keep a space in your diary for late August or early September. The Longlea Landcare Group is planning a tree planting morning between Peppercorn Park and the Axe Creek swing bridge and is looking for willing helpers. It will probably be a Sunday morning from 9.30 to noon followed by a BBQ lunch. We’ll let you know as soon as we have a date.
