Perhaps you already receive newsletters from the Junortoun Community Action Group (JCAG), who are passionate about their community, improving facilities, as well helping the O’Keefe Rail Trail to connect with this community.
Newsletter No 30 Summer 2021-2022 has been published, which has the latest updates on the Honeyeater Bushland Reserve project, the O’Keefe Rail Trail Nestbox project, touching on Junortoun’s history, various local club’s information, Junortoun CFA’s report, as well as many other interesting articles.
The Honeyeater Bushland Reserve is easily accessed from the O’Keefe Rail Trail, once you reach the trail facing sign ‘Knul-doorung Woodland’ near Binks Rd or Somerset Park Rd (Map).
The JCAG’s O’Keefe Rail Trail Nest Box project was originally initiated back in 2016, and has continued to have boxes built and installed along the rail trail, and now placed within areas of the Honeyeater Bushland Reserve.
A total of 159 nest boxes have been constructed, with the ‘phase 3’ of the project along the rail trail between Cashens Road to Markovich Lane having now been completed. This initiative is expected to provided ongoing benefits for threatened native species, such as the Brush-tailed phascogale (Tuan).
