The devastation of the October 2022 flooding in central Victoria impacted many people and properties. The O’Keefe Rail Trail was not spared, nor was the Campaspe River’s adjoining natural environment.
A previous tree plantation adjacent to the river and the rail trail had become ‘drowned’ and was severely damaged during this flooding.
Not to be deterred, members of the Axedale community, Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail, and the Longlea Landcare group joined forces on Sunday 30 July to replant the damaged areas with tube stock trees, shrubs and grasses.
This effort is hoped to create a pleasant environment directly adjacent to the rail trail in future years. Just like the Friends group’s new members, Pat and Tim, who were involved in this activity, joining this community group is a great way to socially connect and participate in the group’s activities and bike rides.
