Many have followed the adventures of Superman and/or Superwoman, yet how many know about ‘The Super Ken of O’Keefe’? With a recent rescue of a ‘damsel in distress‘ on the O’Keefe Rail Trail, a good deed has been appreciated by that trail user.

Riding along the O’Keefe Rail Trail on a long weekend, Nicole and Mike were enjoying the trail experience when unfortunately Nicole’s bike had a flat tyre. Now this shouldn’t be a big issue, if cyclists carry basic spares, tools and a pump. No such luck for Nicole, stranded, no spares or a pump, and needing a miracle 😉

‘Super Ken of O’Keefe’ to the rescue, with Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail member Ken Hanson also being out trail riding with his wife Margaret and who came across Nicole in distress. Not having the right spare tube or being fazed with the situation, Ken rode to get his car and then drove Nicole and her bike back to a Bendigo cycle store to have the problem fixed.

Attached is a cartoon that Nicole mailed to the Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail, as well as a Thank You gift for Ken, which tells the story of ‘Super Ken of O’Keefe’. What a great cartoon, recounting the story to recognise Ken’s efforts! It is hoped that Nicole and Mike enjoy more of the O’Keefe Rail Trail on their next excursion, hopefully this time with spare tubes, tools, and a pump just in case!
