Heathcote and the O’Keefe Rail Trail will become the beneficiaries of a recent contract signing. A major project for the Lions Club of Heathcote formally began with the signing of ‘Agreement to Construct Ironbark Timber Frame Recreational Pavilion’ (rail trail shelter) by President Daryl Dedman and Joe McMahon of Heartland Log Structures.

Community based Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail congratulate Daryl and the Lions Club for their commitment to provide what will become an important facility for the O’Keefe Rail Trail in Heathcote. Not only will this pavilion become a trail rest stop or place to meet friends in Heathcote, it will also be a local information point for visiting rail trail users.

The proposed structure is expected to become admired for its natural beauty and craftsmanship. Using locally sourced ironbark timber known for its strength and natural beauty, plus a ‘no nail’ construction method, the design has also been inspired by the former railway. With these features, the anticipated pavilion is creating much excitement amongst locals and trail users.
