The O’Keefe Rail Trail had to be closed in January at its Lake Eppalock crossing, due to being completely submerged by high water levels. Subsequently, the trail had sustained damage plus deposited debris.

While many communities and other areas experienced stormwater damage within the City of Greater Bendigo council area, council staff were able to respond to this popular trail’s closure once the water levels lowered.

Clearance of the deposited debris from the trail has now occurred, including some minor repairs to the trail’s surface being undertaken.

Yet trail users still need to be aware of remaining damaged surfaces, so the necessary precautions need to be undertaken.

The bonus now for users is being able to cross the lake on this causeway, with the added attraction of high water levels lapping on both sides of the trail!
