The satisfaction of volunteering plus helping the environment’s biodiversity can be a very rewarding experience. This was very evident when Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail members volunteered to assist the City of Greater Bendigo council’s Parks and Natural Reserves staff. The aim was to clean up and mulch a plantation that is adjacent to the O’Keefe Rail Trail and the Campaspe River at Axedale.
With high river flows having now subsided, a previously flooded National Tree Day planting area needed some care and attention. So it was all action, with wheelbarrows, shovels, and rakes being used by the volunteers.
Of course, once finished, it was coffee and lunch time at the Axedale Tavern, with plans for the next member’s social ride activity being discussed.
