Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail

Linking central Victoria via the old railway line

O’Keefe officially a trail of regional significance

The O’Keefe Rail Trail has been identified as one of seven trail proposals of regional significance. The Loddon Mallee Regionally Significant Trails Strategy investigated trails that have the potential to

  • attract domestic and international visitors to the area
  • showcase the unique landscape and cultural features
  • invigorate local communities
  • enhance the region’s reputation as a key competitive and recreational
  • cycling centre and
  • provide recreational opportunities for local residents.

There’s still a lot of work to be done for the O’Keefe and many of the other trails to reach that potential, but at least their value has been confirmed.

The strategy is being developed with the supported of nine regional councils, Regional Development Victoria, Department of Planning and Community Development, Department of Sustainability and Environment, Parks Victoria and the Department of Human Services. The draft report is available on the Community Vibes web site.
