National event Ride to Work in Bendigo, on Wednesday 18 October, saw perfect early morning weather encouraging riders into the Civic Gardens to celebrate the activity.

An initial welcome by Bike Bendigo President Nicola Dunnicliff-Wells was followed by Cr. Margaret O’Rourke formally speaking about the benefits of active transport. Cr. O’Rourke also acknowledged the work that the Friends of Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail group has done over the past 14 years.

As well as breakfast being provided to cyclists, two community groups present at the event, Bike Bendigo, together with Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail, both provided information displays that generated much interest from the public in attendance.

With the O’Keefe Rail Trail being both a ‘ride2work’ commuter route plus recreation trail, it was encouraging to hear that Council is currently investigating and arranging sites for e-bike charging stations, which may include the rail trail.

Recreational and commuters cyclists are encouraged to support the efforts of this Friends volunteer community group by being involved. It’s easy! Just make contact via https://bendigokilmorerailtrail.com/contact-us/
