Fifteen of the 16 green gates that were the bane of cyclists and horses travelling along the original O’Keefe trail are now gone. The last pedestrian gate will also be removed as soon as a trail-wide farm gate is installed to enable a local farmer to move stock safely across the pathway. Weren’t they part of the trail’s own history? Well, yes, but we don’t deny they were removed by Friends’ and council muscle power with some pleasure.

Section of trail with green gate still in-situ

Access for all: the old green gates along the original part of the O’Keefe Rail Trail are now all gone, but one.
